This is a BMR2 Series 2 piece Floating Cryogenically Treated BrakeMonster CryoRotor from DP Brakes. The BMR2 Series are 2 piece floating rotors. BMR2 Series rotors use 410 stainless steel braking surface but utilise a lightweight 7075 aluminium alloy centre. This 2 piece (or floating) design enables the braking surface to expand and contract without imparting these stresses to the hub mounting face. The rotors are double disc ground and heat treated. The cryogenic treatment causes the molecular structure of the 410 stainless steel to change. The lower the temperature the greater the transformation rate. The freezing process allows the gaps in the structure to be filled with the carbides and creates a much more dense, “organized” appearance. So overall you can expect a service life up to 3x that of a non-treated rotor and one that copes much better with the hot/cold heat cycle associated with disc brakes.
